مدیر بحران فدراسیون بین‌المللی صلیب‌سرخ و هلال‌احمر:
وضعیت در مکزیک ناامید‌کننده است
شهروند|  ده‌ها تن از تیم‌های صلیب‌سرخ مکزیک پس از زلزله مرگبار بیستم سپتامبر، شبانه برای جست‌وجوی بازماندگان، حمل زخمی‌ها به مراکز پزشکی و ارایه کمک‌های اولیه در محل حادثه فعالیت دارند. طبق اعلام دولت، این زلزله به بزرگی 7.1 ریشتر در مرکز و جنوب مکزیک منجر به کشته‌شدن بیش از 200نفر شد. ساختمان‌ها در مکزیکوسیتی و پوئبلا، در نزدیکی مرکز حادثه، تخریب شده‌اند و گزارش‌هایی از آسیب جدی به زیرساخت‌ها، ازجمله پل‌های تخریب‌شده، رسیده است. صلیب‌سرخ مکزیک ده‌ها تن از پزشکان و پرستاران را در کنار بیش از 90 آمبولانس و واحد نجات شهری خود مستقر کرده است. درمجموع، بیش از 500 داوطلب و کارمند در ساعاتی پس از این حادثه به حالت آماده‌باش درآمدند.
واحدهای اضافی نجات شهری، آمبولانس و پشتیبانی تدارکات در منطقه جالیکو در غرب مکزیک  مستقر شده‌اند.
پاسکال میگ، مدیر بحران و واکنش به حادثه فدراسیون بین‌المللی صلیب‌سرخ و هلال‌احمر (IFRC) گفت: وضع ناامید‌کننده است و بسیاری از مردم در زیر آوارها به دام افتاده‌اند. ازجمله کودکان که در مدرسه زمین‌لرزه برایشان اتفاق افتاد، در آن‌جا محبوس شدند. صلیب‌سرخ مکزیک ظرفیت فوق‌العاده‌ای دارد؛ زیرا به دو زلزله بزرگ در کمتر از دو هفته پیش و همچنین طوفان‌های استوایی لیدیا و کاتیا، که در اوایل ماه سپتامبر رخ داد، واکنش نشان داده است. او گفت؛ صدها تن از متخصصان صلیب‌سرخ درحال حاضر درحال تلاش برای نجات جان افراد هستند.
زلزله بیستم سپتامبر، بعد از طوفان قدرتمندی که در 7سپتامبر باعث کشته‌شدن نزدیک به 100نفر در جنوب‌شرقی کشور شد، به وقوع پیوست. بیش از 2هزار داوطلب صلیب‌سرخ، توزیع کمک‌های بشردوستانه را به مناطق آسیب‌دیده در ایالت‌های اوکزاکا و چیاپاس ادامه می‌دهند.

Mexican Red Cross teams providing urgent search and rescue
Shahrvand| Dozens of Mexican Red Cross teams have been working through the night, searching for survivors, ferrying injured to medical centers and providing on the spot first aid following yesterday’s deadly earthquake. The magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck central and southern Mexico killing more than 200 people, according to the government.
Buildings in Mexico City and Puebla, near the quake’s epicenter, have collapsed, and there are reports of severe damage to infrastructure, including collapsed bridges. The Mexican Red Cross has deployed dozens of doctors and nurses, alongside more than 90 ambulances and its urban rescue unit. In all, more than 500 volunteers and staff were activated in the hours immediately following the disaster.
Additional urban rescue units, ambulances and logistics support has been deployed to the disaster zone from Jalico in western Mexico.
“The situation is desperate with many people trapped under rubble, including children who were at school when the earthquake struck,” said Pascale Meige, Director of Disaster and Crisis Response at the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). “The Mexican Red Cross has extraordinary capacity as it responds to two major earthquakes less than two weeks apart and tropical storms Lidia and Katia, which hit in early September. Hundreds of Red Cross paramedics are out there right now trying to save lives in what is always a race against time,” she said.
Yesterday’s earthquake comes after a powerful killed nearly 100 people in the south-east of the country on 7 September. More than 2,000 Red Cross volunteers continue to provide humanitarian assistance to communities affected by that disaster in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas.
